Kizor Family Cellars is a love letter to Syrah and Riesling. The best white-wine sites in California used to be planted to Riesling -- some still are. Syrah has been called the winemakers’ grape and shows site more than any other red variety. Our mission is to find vineyards and growers that exemplify the best of what California has to offer. We vinify their grapes well with little intervention, to embrace California history, bottle California sunshine, and show classic California quality.

After working a harvest in Australia (Where Shiraz and Riesling are king), Ted realized how similar the climactic conditions are to this great state— that perhaps old vine Riesling and Syrah could be sourced from the vineyards of the Golden State too. With continued study, and help from his mentors, he found the Wirz Vineyard Old Vine Riesling. Since 2021, Ted has been crafting Kizor Family Cellars.
Ted has been in the wine business since 2009. He is passionate about old vines and California wine history. After working a string of harvests at Ridge Vineyards , Clonakilla, Joseph Swan Vineyards, Domaine Stephane Ogier, and ultimately as the winemaker for Dunn Vineyards - Howell Mountain. He is happily settled in Napa with his wife, Gabriella Steyl – you can find them cooking for friends, gardening, or enjoying a glass of wine on their porch.
